Recent Developments

Following the unanimous support of the California Coastal Commission for the Phase III expansion of the San Diego Convention Center, the City of San Diego and Port of San Diego have begun the next steps necessary to ensure the expansion project breaks ground in early 2015.

The California Coastal Commission voted unanimously in approval of the San Diego Unified Port District Port Master Plan Amendment for the expansion of the San Diego Convention Center and Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel Expansion. The approval stood as the last permitting requirement for the $520 million convention center expansion project to move forward.

With overwhelming public support, the Port of San Diego remains committed to expanding the San Diego Convention Center and Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel despite a negative recommendation issued Friday by California Coastal Commission staff.

"Today’s approval is the result of a strong five-year collaboration between SDCCC, the City of San Diego, the Port of San Diego, hotel developers and the community. This is a win for all San Diegans and will ensure we remain a top meeting and convention destination."
